*While all programmes run in 4-week sessions, students can start on any Monday year-round (Tuesday if Monday is a public holiday). For the best experience, we encourage students to start at the beginning of a session where possible and not to start on week four of the session.
Programme Structure
The Semi-Intensive English Programme (SIEP) allows you to focus on the English skills that are most relevant to your needs. You will choose one core component from the Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP): Structure & Speaking Practice or Reading & Writing.
You may also add Skills Enhancement to your schedule for further practice and support.
All SIEP students will also have access to the Language Technology Centre, where they can continue developing their English through online learning activities.
Core Components
Structure & Speaking Practice
This component consists of two lessons each day, from Monday to Friday. You will develop your speaking and listening skills while improving your understanding and use of English grammar.
Reading & Writing
This component consists of two lessons each day, from Monday to Friday. You will develop your reading comprehension and learn to communicate more clearly and effectively in writing.
Optional Component
Skills Enhancement
This component consists of one lesson each day, from Monday to Thursday. Through collaborative classroom activities, you will practise using English and strengthen your communication skills.
Language Technology Centre
All students have access to the Language Technology Centre (LTC) after their scheduled classes. At the LTC, you can use a computer to access study materials and online language exercises on the ELS Online platform.
The LTC is open until 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. Students who are unable to visit the LTC may access the online learning modules from home.

* Classes from Monday to Thursday may be scheduled in the morning or afternoon.
* Friday schedule will be shorter to allow time for activities and excursions (classes between 8:30 am and 12:20 pm only).
ELS Levels
ELS offers 10 proficiency levels (Beginner to Advanced), as well as placement testing to determine the level that best fits your abilities. At the end of every four-week session, if you successfully meet your level’s requirements, you will move up to the next level.
As you progress through the levels, your courses build upon the skills you learned in the lower levels and become more complex.

- Use English with growing accuracy and fluency, including in reading and writing
- Participate fully in most conversations
- By Level 107, be ready to undertake diploma-level and certain undergraduate programmes conducted in English or conduct business in English at a basic level
- By Level 108, be ready for most undergraduate programmes at university level or work in an English-speaking environment
- By Level 109, be confident to embark on a university degree or post-graduate programme
